The Sparkling wine …. glass….

when i say ” sparkling ” wine glass i meant also the CHAMPAGNE wine. Why ? because it is SPARKLING !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

How many time , too much , i heard( and hearing everywhere ) talk about Champagne like if was the ONLY type of wine instead SPARKLING are the others !! NOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!! I have to explain to you something more …. The sparkling wine’s world is a group that contains the ” Champenoise- classico method and Charmat – Martinotti method “. Then you can say ” Champagne ( champenoise or classico method ) or Valdobbiadene prosecco ( Charmat or Martinotti method ) ” .

Well , but i am not here , now , to explain deeper this fact , but to say that the FLUTE , the glass used just for Aromatic Sparkling wines ( yes , Champagne also* ) is creepy ….. CREEPY . In Italy these kinds of glass are saw as old – ancient – vintage glass used only into the bad tavern maybe ( but i don’t think so neither there ) and since i come from the land of Prosecco ( the REAL one ) i can say pretty sure that are 10 years , perhaps more , that glass has been relegated on the bottom of the shelves ( or destroyed ).

I dunno why there are lots of people who are still using those STUFFS into 5 stars resorts as well . The old flute , with that long and tiny shape now have been overtaken by new models , new types , which are way more better then the flute .

calice-flute-scherzer  The flute , this one on the left ,  was born on the early 30 s of last century , due to the productions of dry Champagne ( brut , extra brut ) rather then sweet ones *(which is used the cup with ) to spreading better the aroma , watch the perlage rise from the bottom and its tiny shape is also to concentrate not only the aroma but also to maintain a longer perlage and preserve the products in the glass .

Of course , you can see lots of these glasses all around the world , because the Sommelier and service’s rules say that this is the right glass , but as you know the rules are always slower to change than the technology .Just for information i argued during the final exam fro become professional sommelier because of this : figure out the Sh… moment it has been … -.- .

But , now days , more or less , everybody turned out this glass to another type of flute , which mostly looks no more like the old one but more like a baloon less convex .

Like this one .

It is not like a baloon really, but it was just to make you an idea .

The glass technology has changed a lot , as anything , and the shape of this fundamental tool for the sommeliers is also changed , the protective material which covers it ( yes , there is a special material , like a sheets , that protect the glass from the several washes and against the products of the washing machine and preserve its clearness ) .

Actually , there is one glass that i like more , and it is my favorite as well , which i see since years and years ago being used from the wineries , during professional tasting or meeting and is this one below  on the left  :

This is the best for me .

It is called ” Priveè gran cru magnum “ ; Like a baloon , less convex , elegant shape , wide opening that helps to smell the scents, the aroma and the bottom (called ”  picure ” : is the shape of the bottom ) is pointy to let the wine spreads better the bubbles and admire the perlage . This glass has been designed and developed for all sparkling wines.

There is no challenge between ” which is the right glass ” for Champagne , Franciacorta , Valdobbiadene prosecco , Cava etc . The Preiveè gran cru magnum is the best under any sides .Last thing , The ” crystal”  is the best material to use for make a glass , due to the brightness , the resistance to the dirty therefore more elegant to the visual effect !

My eyes now are burning ! Bye guys !!! Thanks To ITALESSE for the PICS !

mat2HEY , Good service , isn’t it ?
